Oracle Instant Client ODBC
--------------------------
Oracle Instant Client ODBC for Unix systems complies with ODBC 3.52
specifications. It is based on the features of Oracle client, without the need
for a traditional ORACLE_HOME installation.
Note: See Oracle Call Interface Programmer's Guide for information on OCI
Instant Client.
Pre-requisite:
-------------
Instant Client ODBC depends on the Oracle Instant Client Basic or Basic Light
package from OTN. For details on installing the Oracle Instant Client Basic or
Basic Light packages, refer to the Oracle Call Interface Programmer's Guide.
Installing Instant Client ODBC
------------------------------
1. Install the Instant Client Basic or Basic Light package.
2. Unzip the Instant Client ODBC package.
ODBC Instant Client package has the following files/shared libraries:

3. Install the unixODBC driver manager if it is not already available. Refer to
the "Recommended unixODBC Driver Manager version" section for choosing the
required unixODBC driver manager version.
4. Execute odbc_update_ini.sh from the Instant Client directory.
Usage: odbc_update_ini.sh <ODBCDM_Home> [<Install_Location> <Driver_Name>
<DSN> <ODBCINI>]

| | in current Oracle Instant Client home. The default |
| | name is "Oracle XX ODBC driver" where XX is the major |
| | version (optional). For e.g., the default name is |
| | "Oracle 18 ODBC driver" for Instant Client ODBC 18.1 |
| | |
| DSN | Sets ODBC DSN name. The default name is OracleODBC-XX |
| | where XX is the major version (optional). For e.g., |
| | the default name is "OracleODBC-18" for Instant Client|
| | ODBC 18.1 |
| | |
| ODBCINI | Directory path of the .odbc.ini file. The default path|
| | is the user's home directory i.e. ~/.odbc.ini |
| | (optional). |

Uninstalling Instant Client ODBC:
--------------------------------
1. Remove the Oracle ODBC driver entry from the odbcinst.ini file of the
unixODBC driver manager.
2. Remove the DSN entry of the Oracle ODBC driver from odbc.ini.
3. Delete all files and directories of Instant Client ODBC.
4. Reset any environment variables such as PATH and TNS_ADMIN.
